Even a year after Hurricane Helene, communities across Western North Carolina continue ongoing recovery and rebuilding needs. At ADC, our work evolves alongside community needs to help individuals where help is needed most. Explore the assistance programs we're currently offering, as well as past relief efforts ADC has launched in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
Yes. Our team can help clients navigate FEMA paperwork, submit documentation, and facilitate appeals through case management support. In some cases, FEMA awards may be designated for specific repair projects, but many households still face unmet needs after funding is received. We work with clients to identify additional support and next steps whenever possible.
* Please note that FEMA Individual Assistance applications for North Carolinians impacted by Hurricane Helene closed on April 7, 2025.
ADC continues to assist neighbors in navigating federal and state funding portals, accessing as many resources as possible.
ADC has exceptional case managers that are here to help. They assist in application and portal navigation, connecting various funding and resources for recovery, and working with individual cases.
ADC is dedicated to supporting un-insured and under-insured individuals. If you were unable to apply for or receive FEMA funding or insurance payout, it in no way affects ADC's capacity to assist. In the case of outside assistance from other non-profit organizations or charity, ADC will coordinate with others who have provided funding to ensure there is no "double dipping" of funds.
We encourage anyone needing recovery services to apply for assistance. If you have a loved one or family member you believe needs assistance, we encourage you to apply for them. However, ADC will still conduct an initial intake interview, site visit, and recovery plan with the directly impacted individuals.
ADC has successfully responded to assistance applications within 6 days.
Actual timelines for rebuilding/recovery efforts can vary depending on the type of assistance requested, project scope, funding availability, and documentation needed. Our team works to review requests as efficiently as possible and will remain in communication throughout the process.
Absolutely. ADC priotizes community-centered approach, particularly that of which connects the coalition of involved disaster relief agents. ADC is partnered with over 28 local organizations and businesses, and works closely with a large network of partner organizations and community groups throughout the region. Even if an organization is not part of our existing alliance, we are often able to collaborate directly to coordinate support for clients. In many cases, ADC may help fund portions of a larger project — such as roofing, repairs, or other recovery needs — alongside other organizations.
We primarily serve communities in Yancey, Madison, and Mitchell counties. However, each request is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and we do our best to connect individuals with appropriate resources whenever possible. If we are unable to provide direct resources to impacted individuals due to location, we will work closely with other partners to ensure unmet needs are addressed.
